About Our Employment Initiatives
The SILC has always considered employment of people with disabilities to be a major component of independent living (IL). People with disabilities want to work, are able to work and are often discouraged by unfair employment disincentives inherent in governmental programs, as well as discrimination among employers and others.
The Vermont SILC has supported educational and outreach initiatives, as well as changes to existing benefit programs, for example, which result in increased employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
The increased socioeconomic productivity entailed by people with disabilities entering the workforce can and will benefit society as a whole. People with disabilities, generally, make good, loyal, employees and deserve to live a life with dignity and self-respect, as self-sufficient as possible. The SILC has partnered and will continue to partner with other organizations to further employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
